Recent ONC Field Trip Pictures

This is an experiment to see how much interest there is in posting recent pictures to our web site. The intent is to show recent events and happenings and not to archive. Thus "old" pictures will be purged to keep the number manageable. For now pictures will be posted with most recent on top, scrolling to oldest at bottom. If there is enough interest we can add pages for different subjects.

Prepare pictures in medium quality jpeg format, 72 dpi, to fit in a 320x320 pixel box. Submit by attaching them to your email with the link above. Be sure to include a caption for each picture. A good program is Irfanview (free). Remember that anything posted on the Internet is freely copied and used by the world.

Open House at LTNS weekend of April 5,2008.

Calvin at computer adusting camera controls while waiting for sunset. Martin Flat is a convenient place to do astronomy. The sky is very dark compared to Houston. Persons observing Saturn were Aaron and Karen Stoley, Charlie and Wanda Smith, Thomas and Regina Autry, Calvin and Connie Blakley, Kellene Jarratt, Mary Jane McCartney, and Mary Jane's daughter.

Saturn photographed April 12, 2008 at Martin Flat, 8:30 pm cdt. I should have waited a few more hours to let the sky settle down but I was too impatient. This picture was compiled from one minute of a VGA webcam video using software written by amateur astronomers. This software uses very sophisticated image processing techniques and it is fun to watch it work. The diameter of Saturn is about 19" and is receding from Earth.
