We have had recording temperature and rainfall gauges at the sanctuary since the winter of 1999. Temperature is recorded every fifteen minutes. Its capacity is three months. The gauges are housed in a wood shelter beside the building. The rain gauge is a Davis Instruments tipping bucket with an event recorder located on the roof of the building. Its capacity is 80 inches. The data recorders are from Onset Computer Corporation and we typically download them to a lap top once a month. Maximum daily rainfall was 6.5" on November 6, 2006 of which 2.5" fell between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. A real gully washer!
Since January, 2000 the low temperature was 18.8 deg F that ocurred on January 9, 2010 at 6:45 am. The highest temperature was 111.9 deg F that ocurred on consecutive days close to 4:00 pm, August 31 and September 1, 2000.
To view graphical representations, select from the list below. The current year ends with last month. Each graph shows the accumulated monthly rain fall, the average, high, and low temperatures for the month, and for comparison, the normal and observed values for IAH, Houston Intercontinental Airport. You will note that the averages for LTNS closely follow those of the airport. The temperature graph is above the rainfall graph, so be sure to scroll down.
